Locks of Love: My 7 Year Old Daughter Donated 12 Inches of Hair

You may remember that two weeks ago I donated 13 inches of hair to Locks of Love.  As soon as our daughter saw my hair, the begging began.  Our daughter is 7 1/2 years old and asked to have her hair cut and donated as well.  Daddy was having a difficult time saying yes to her request. She had NEVER had a haircut before, only trims to get rid of split ends and shorten her bangs. 

I love her long hair but I've always thought she would look adorable with a short cut. If it were only up to me, she would have had a short haircut, probably a bob, a long time ago!

We have to take baby steps when it comes to daddy, long hair and his baby girl!  After a couple nights of talking to my husband he agreed that she could have her hair cut.  His only stipulation was that it not be cut above her shoulders.  I was happy with that and so was she.

 

 

 When I asked her why she wanted to cut and donate her hair she said... "Mommy, I want to help those kids who don't have any hair.  I don't think it would feel good to have no hair because they probably feel weird and people might make fun of them.  They can have my hair because I have enough for all of us."
 
Then she went on to say... "Besides, I can always grow more hair and they can't.  I want to help them and give them my hair so that they can have long pretty hair just like me.  I just have one question... how do they get the hair to stay on their heads?  Do they sew it on or something?"
 
I am so proud of my daughter for making the decision to give a piece of herself and make such a caring and thoughtful donation.

My little boy's tiny curls woudln't do locks of love much good at this point. lol

I was going to donate mine at one point, but my hair is so badly damanged I didn't think they'd want it.

That's great and it's great that she wants to help others. I have long hair (and pretty much always have) and when I cut it recently, I donated as well. Even with them taking 8 inches a month or so ago, it's back below my shoulders again. I usually cut it for the summer so when it starts to get warm next year, I'll have more for them.

that is so sweet! I would love to donate but I havent had long hair since kindergarden. I just can't seem to grow it out at all.

That was very sweet of her. My daughter only got a few trims and at 10 her hair is just about your daughters after her cut. My daughters hair seems to grow very slowly.

Very nice, and good of her to do.

I've heard a lot of mixed information about Locks of Love, though, and apparently the wigs aren't free for the children. I have no plans to cut my hair, but if I ever did and wanted to donate it, it would be after a lot of research!

I think that's a great idea, and I really really REEEEEEALLY like the way she thinks!!! She has a great attitude. Please tell her I said that. Also, she looks good either way. I hope her Daddy understands that for some other "Daddy's Little Girl" to have some pretty hair, his little girl needed to give some of hers up.

Adorable! I tried to donate a few times and they always tell me I don't have enough to donate- SO not true! I had inches and inches to donate and would have had plenty left over. Oh well.

She is a great kid to think of others before herself. My son grew his hair out and has donated it twice to locks of love and is working on growing it out to donate for the third time. I get a lot of flack over letting him grow out his hair because he's a boy but it's something he feels strongly about. Give her a hug for me and let her know that we're all very proud of her.
