Frustration and extra work should not have to be part of a senior's life. Therefore, direct deposit of their Social Security check each month is just the ticket. It allows for them to prevent fraud and someone stealing a paper check. They also don't have to remember to, or make the effort to get to a bank to cash the check.
Approximately 440,000 checks were stolen last year, according to The Suffolk-News Herald.   Having them directly deposited in a bank monthly keeps the money safe, as the recipient can call to verify that the check was indeed deposited. Even people without a bank account can do this. Other benefits include: being able to access this money while you're on vacation, or virtually anywhere; it saves taxpayers money, by eliminating printing costs; and it reduces the already huge impact on the environment of producing more paper.  Although these technologies can sometimes create problems for many people, the pros definitely outweigh the cons.
