American teens now interested in the Circle Lenses after Lady Gaga music video. The Circle Lenses were already hugely popular in South Korea before Lady Gaga but now people everywhere are interested in them to thanks to Lady Gaga's music video for Bad Romance.
A craze known as the circle contact lenses aka Big eye circle lens is a contact lens that has the colored part of the lenses covering a portion of the whites of ones eyes also, the effect is for the wearer to appear to have a larger than normal iris. At 14mm, the circle lenses' diameter is 2mm larger than most iris diameters.
This anime look is sought after by young girls but the effects of the circle lens could cause more than just doll like eyes. In extreme cases, people may go blind because there are no regulations surrounding the circle lens which are all made in Asia.
America has banned them and the circle lenses are actually illegal here but thanks to the internet, teens are still able to purchase them for around $20 - $30 per pair.
According to Dr. Jennifer Ashton in the video below, the possible risks the circle lenses poses are:
- Blindness
- Corneal Ulcer & Abrasion
- Vision Impairment
- Lack of Oxygen
- Infection
These crazes eventually die down but there are those who become so into them that they suffer the ultimate consequences for their actions later.
