The power of lobbies and political pressure is the reason Aspartame is an FDA approved food additive. The controversial sweetener was even listed by the Pentagon as a biochemical warfare agent at one point, and now it has the ability to camouflage itself under names like NutraSweet, Canderel and now, AminoSweet. In fact, aspartame can be found in over 6,000 different types of foods, and we're still eating it without knowing the seriously damaging side effects of the additive, mostly neurological. Food for thought, huh? It can be found in diet foods, vitamins, cereals, prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Effectively, the newest name aspartame has rebranded under AminoSweet, capitalizing upon the fact that the additive is made from amino acids, seemingly coming off to consumers as healthy and "essential" to our diet.
By stark contrast, there are more complaints related to aspartame reactions than for all other food additives combined. The plot thickens, "by the FDA's own admission, less than 1 percent of those who experience a reaction to a product ever report it. So in all likelihood, the toxic effects of aspartame may have affected roughly a million people already" reported by The Huffington Post. Somehow, doctors have not become familiarized with the harmful side effects of this chemical, some mimicking other severe health conditions listed here.
In addition to the horrendous side effects, artificial sweeteners such as this one are sprinkled into all kinds of diet foods and drinks, claiming that people will actually lose weight (regardless of the lupus or multiple sclerosis they may develop, at least they'll be skinny). On the contrary, people actually have the ability to develop more weight problems because of the chemical as your body loses its ability to count calories and making you more hungry which makes you more apt to overeat. What a concept, huh?
It makes me sick to think this food product can act as a chameleon, constantly changing its name, evading doctors' realm of knowledge, squirming through to the FDA by politics and financial pressure, and constantly deceiving its consumers, and for what? To slowly kill the population? People need to become informed of the horrific chemicals that are put into our foods without our knowledge if the FDA isn't going to do the job for us.
