When Betty White's Facebook fans demanded the octogenarian star host "Saturday Night Live" earlier this year their pleas did not fall on deaf ears. In fact, they might have even kick-started a seemingly unstoppable parade of Betty White appearances throughout mainstream media.
The former "Golden Girls" favorite went on to host SNL to critical acclaim and with many viewers lauding her episode as some of the best work the live sketch show has done in years. And it didn't stop there for White. With an appearance in a beloved Super Bowl commercial and at the MTV Movie Awards, she's just getting started!
So I suppose it was only a matter of time before Betty White's big comeback crossed paths with another huge Hollywood craze - the "Twilight" saga!
The Marquee Blog on CNN reports that "Twilight" mega-stars Robert Pattinson and Kellan Lutz have expressed interest in the 88-year-old appearing in their next movie! They've even come up with a role for her to play.
“She can be the baby,†Pattinson told E! News referring, CNN reports, to Renesmee Cullen, the daughter who is born to Edward and Bella in “Breaking Dawn.â€
Lutz agreed with Pattinson's assertion saying, "I love Betty. I would love for them to do what they did in ‘Benjamin Button’ with her and she can be Renesmee. I would change some scenes up so we could have Jacob and Emmet going for her. I want to work with her. That would be so much fun."
Are these guys serious?! Or are they just being kind to a fellow actor?
Stephenie Meyer, the author of the novels seems down to help find a part for Betty in Twilight too! “Wouldn't it be amazing if she was like just sitting there with a big group of the Volturi?†Meyer said.
It's true that America has Betty White fever. And the Twilight bug is also highly contagious lately, with the premiere of "Eclipse" hitting box offices earlier this week.
But do these two fan favorites belong together? I guess stranger things have happened!
I, for one, love how much attention Betty White has been getting lately. There's something so encouraging about seeing an older comedienne still appreciated by her fans and still able to do what she does best - make us laugh. And she does so without missing a beat.
She's an example for all women that your career doesn't have to end just because your hair turns white. Go Betty!
