Mississippi takes the lead, Alabama and Tennessee tied for second, West Virginia, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Arkansas, South Carolina and North Carolina and Michigan tied for tenth fattest states in the US. Â Michigan is the only non-southern state that has tied for making it in the top ten states leading in obesity rates.
Is it the famed southern bar-b-que or great southern cooking that is causing the obesity rates to rise in these states. Â Mississippi has been in the lead for the last six years, so it does make you wonder what is leading the cause of obesity in these states.
If you look at the states that have had great unemployment and other outside factors that typically cause depression, overeating and other stress related factors you will find many of the above listed states topping most of them as well. Â The two could certainly be related as stress in an of itself can cause weight gain.
