Cheryl Burke, and a crowd of roller derby girls were on hand in Tompkins Square Park in NYC yesterday, to promote The Body Shop’s new DeoDry Deodorant. Burke, known best for her work on Dancing with the Stars is the new spokeswoman for the deodorant line. The new DeoDry line boasts an aluminum-salt and paraben free deodorant that is available in roll-on or stick. The deodorant uses volcanic minerals and essential oils, instead of aluminum salts.
What’s the big deal about aluminum salts and paraben? There have been some who have stated that aluminum and parabens in underarm antiperspirants and deodorants may increase a woman’s risk for breast cancer. Studies have given conflicting results as to whether or not there truly is a link. Here is more info about the confusion from Cancer.gov.
So does Cheryl Burke make you want to try the new deodorant? I am thinking of giving it a try. But, not because of Burke. I have a sensitivity to aluminum, especially in deodorants and antiperspirants. For me, using an antiperspirant with aluminum causes painful lumps in my breasts, which go away when I am not using it. It is hard to find an effective deodorant without some type of aluminum in it. But, since I don’t want the breast lumps, I use aluminum-free. Selecting the right brand is definitely trial and error, which can be tough. I live in the very hot and humid Southeast. I need something that keeps me from scaring people off with my aroma.
DeoDry is available on The Body Shop website and in its stores. It comes in three scents, “Cool & Zesty,†“Chilled & Breezy,†and “Fresh & Floral.†There is an offer online where you can purchase the deodorant for $4, and refills for $3. (DeoDry retails for $8, with roll-on refills going for $6.) If you are interested in giving it a try, now is your chance to do it at a great price.

Some might think the price is a little steep for a deodorant, but given the natural ingredients, the price is comparable to other similar brands. For the price, the important question is: does it work? I’ll give it a try and get back to you.
