In Milford, Connecticut on Saturday, police arrested a familiar-looking face: none other than WTNH's traffic reporter Desiree Fontaine. Fontaine is accused of walking out of a Sears department store with $104.98 worth of merchandise she did not pay for. The particular crime she was arrested for and will have to answer to in court is sixth-degree larceny.
Not much else is known about the circumstances of the crime. What I'd like most to see is A) a mugshot, and B) what exactly Desiree Fontaine attempted to steal.
WTNH is keeping mum for now, with their new director releasing a statement saying "It is not the station's policy to comment on personnel matters."
Desiree Fontaine joined WTNH (known as "News 8") in 2007. She is the regular traffic reporter on the show Good Morning Connecticut, and also hosts Connecticut Style. It will be interesting to see how the station handles this situation - will they fire her outright or reserve judgment? Perhaps they won't care about a guilty verdict for a misdemeanor. This is made more interesting by the fact that her face is on television almost everyday.
People in the New Haven area, did anyone notice if Desiree Fontaine was on the air this morning, after being arrested Saturday?
Here's a Youtube clip of Desiree:
