Jennifer Aniston's secret for a healthy lunch comes as no surprise. Her former "Friends" co-star Courteney Cox told the Los Angeles Times recently, according to Self Magazine, that Aniston, Cox and Lisa Kudrow ate salads together every day throughout their entire time on "Friends."
"Jennifer and Lisa and I ate lunch together every single day for 10 years," Courteney told the LA Times. "We always had the same thing -- a Cobb salad. But it wasn't really a Cobb salad. It was a Cobb salad that Jennifer doctored up with turkey bacon and garbanzo beans and I don't know what. She has a way with food, which really helps."
As Self Magazine points out, a classic Cobb salad is made up of chicken or turkey, bacon, hard-boiled eggs, tomatoes, avocado, cheese and other ingredients that can be fattening or higher-calorie. So Aniston's healthier substitutions certainly helped keep the "Friends" ladies thin and fit for their ten years on the show.
Courtney Cox, 45, said, "...If you're going to eat the same salad every day for 10 years, it'd better be a good salad, right?"
Making healthier substitutions to your favorite meals is one of the BEST ways to lose weight. I lost 115 pounds in my early twenties and I did it by continuing to eat the foods that I craved and desired, but I made smarter choices. I substituted egg whites for whole eggs, lean ground turkey for red meat, seltzer instead of soda, and skim milk instead of whole milk.
Another great way to continue to eat the foods you love while still losing weight is to keep a careful eye on your portions. The book "400 Calorie Fix" suggests that American portion sizes have crept up - and incredibly so - in the last 30 years. For instance, if I were to measure out a cup of cereal, verses eyeball what I think a cup looks like, I will almost certainly get it wrong. Americans have lost all track of portions, the book suggests.
So keep an eye on your portions and substitute healthier foods when possible. Instead of having three pieces of pizza, enjoy 1 slice along with a filling salad and a lemon water. Instead of a huge piece of cheesy lasagna, enjoy 1 measured cup of whole wheat pasta with fresh tomato sauce and sprinkled Parmesan.
The most important thing to remember when losing weight is that you can make little changes that can add up to big results.
Good luck!
