Tipper and Al Gore announced that they have separated after 40 years of marriage. 40 years. Four decades. Ten years shy of half a century.
Whatever could have possessed this long married couple to split after a lifetime together? It seems the two, who were high school sweethearts have grown apart, and have been leading seperate lives for some time now.
Al Gore, former VP, and author of the sensational "An Inconvenient Truth" and Tipper, a sucessful photographer in her own rite, have chosen to remain friends an part while that is still possible.
They announced, in an e-mail to friends, which was obtained by the AP, that they had made "a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration."
The couple, who made headlines with a passionate soul kiss at the 2000 Democratic National Convention seemed the perfect couple. Lord knows they had weathered more storms than any couple should have to. They stayed together through the near-death of their son, Al's Vice Presidency, later run for presidency, the crap-storm following Tipper's involvement with Parents Music Resource Center, the group responsible for placing warning labels on music CDs, records etc..., and Al's unexpected fame after "An Inconvenient Truth" became a worldwide phenomenon.
I feel sorry that this iconic couple have split, but I am glad they did it before an affair, or something just as sordid could make the break even worse than it undoubtedly is.
More famous couples should consider going out with some class, as they have.
I wish them both well, and hope they really will remain friends.
Perhaps Tipper, decided to sing the following song, by another famous Gore, Leslie, (no relation), to Al.
